  We jumped off the treadmill relatively early, met 12-years ago in South America while we were doing voluntary work, and have been managing to balance our lives ever since with some less stressful paid work, voluntary work and lots of travel.

  After ten wonderful home exchanges in Australia and Europe we are now house sitting our way around Australia. We have looked after an assortment of livestock and domestic animals, including pet kangaroos! and are presently taking care of a farmstay property in Western Australia. We have two more house sits booked but are looking for the month of August preferably in Queensland, from mid-October to mid-December or part there of in Tasmania, Adelaide and Sydney.
  We have previously worked on two country estates belonging to Toronto stockbrokers for a total of eleven years where our duties included housekeeping, grounds, pool and equipment maintenance, gardening, carpentry, horse and pet care, and sourcing and overseeing various contractors. In addition we have been homeowners for the past thirty-four years, living on country acreage with the same responsibilities. Over the years we have loved and looked after a variety of our own dogs and cats. Leon has worked as a construction foreman and an automotive mechanic in South Africa.  He has considerable other construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and engine repair experience. For thirty-five years also Leon managed a flour mill and for twenty years Barbara ran her own custom drapery and design business.

  We sponsor local village kids thro' primary and secondary school, and teach them to surf with equipment that would otherwise not be available to them. In the tropics we are both writing, short stories and an autobiography. In between surf's we kayak, read, make shell jewellery and enjoy siesta's.

After a few years I got sick and tied of the government and all their paperwork. So with a friend I spent 5 years working my way around good ole Auz. I worked on farms, outback stations, and in factory's. Had the best time ever. Now I am trying to be an author. Even though at the present moment I do not have any animals but, I have had cats, dogs, a horse, birds and believe it or not ants. I love being around them as they bring you peace and happiness. I do not smoke, or have wild parties. Love gardening, and have designed a few. Sitting out under the stars at night I think is the best thing in the world to do.

• We are a retired professional couple with a family of five children who have grown up and left home. We have sold our home and we are now free to go wherever. This has been our lifestyle since 2002.
  Previous house sits have been in the city, and the country, large homes and small, with and without pets, gardens and pools, and our  extras  have included caring for teenage children and running a luxury bed and breakfast business (we used to run our own national consulting company).
  Sometimes our ingenuity has been tested to the limit, but so far it has not been found lacking. We have enjoyed every single house sit and can provide excellent references.

  Ric is a former Journalist and Foreign Correspondent who ran newsrooms in various places and for the last few years worked as a lecturer part-time at QUT University in Brisbane. Gill was a senior Fashion Buyer for a large UK company, but became more interested in working with organisations that do some good in the community.
  We jumped off the treadmill relatively early, met 12-years ago in South America while we were doing voluntary work, and have been managing to balance our lives ever since with some less stressful paid work, voluntary work and lots of travel.
  We are fit, healthy, tidy, non-smoking, and reasonably handy around house and garden. We feel equally comfortable in big cities and the bush and like to divide our time between the two.
  We genuinely like animals of all sorts - having grown up with dogs, cats, sheep and the odd budgie -  (although Gill is not a big fan of mice).... but our desire to keep travelling through our fifties and onwards means we can't keep our own pets.
  As travel and change are a big part of our lives, we are pretty flexible about times and places.  We have a 4WD with a slide-on camper that takes us just about anywhere around Australia.  We've spent the year so far in the Grampians, Victorian Alps, Adelaide and Brisbane.
